| Nitro High School, established in 1918, is in the AAA Classification, the largest for West Virginia High Schools. Nitro has an enrollment of 667 in grades 9, 10, 11. West Virginia schools currently classified as AAA (40 schools) have an enrollment of between 627 and 1446, quite a large spread between the smallest and largest schools, with Nitro being the 8th smallest AAA school. |

| Directions to the high school & football field (Underwood Field) From I-64, Nitro Exit 45 Turn left onto 1st Ave. (Rt.25). Go straight past Checkers, McDonald's, Wendy's, Dairy Queen, GoMart, Cooke Funeral Home & Huntington Bank. Just past the bank, turn right at the light, cross the tracks & then just past the Kid's Playground, turn left onto Park Ave. You can park at the library on your right or continue on Park Ave. & park at the high school. From Dunbar, Institute & St. Albans Stay on Rt. 25 (1st Ave.) past Town & Country Lanes, several car dealers, Twin City Bible Church & the Moose Lodge. Go straight thru the light just past the 7-Eleven & continue to the light at 19th Street (about 2 miles from the Nitro-St.Albans bridge). Turn left at the light & cross the tracks. Continue as above. |
