Poca battled from behind twice before pulling out a 30-22
victory over Nitro Friday night at Underwood Field in Nitro.
Poca's Barney Wells passed to Rocky Savilla to tie the game at
6-6 two minutes after Nitro had taken the opening kickoff 75 yards in
11 plays with Bret Caldwell going the final yard.
Nitro regained the lead on a 36-yard pass from Scott Dixon to O
.J. Estep.
The Dots rallied again to tie the score with a 90-yard drive.
Wells ran the final yard and added the two-point conversion to tie
the score at 14-14. Steve Lambert's 22-yard field goal put the Dots
on top to stay near the end of the half at 17-14.
Poca raised its lead to 24-14 in the third quarter on Derek
Courney's three-yard touchdown run. Nitro closed the gap to two
points on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Dixon to Matt McNee with 4:07
left in the game.
Cullifer then sealed the win on a 20-yard touchdown run with
2:07 left in the game.
Nitro senior Greg Bibbee led all rushers with 88 yards on 13
carries. Dixon completed nine passes for 113 yards for the Wildcats
The Dots outrushed Nitro, 139-134. Wells led Poca's balanced
attack with 54 yards on 15 carries.
Poca finished with a 7-3 record. Nitro closed with a 4-6 mark
