George Washington's visiting Patriots scored early and often,
picking up victory No. 1 in a 52-22 win over Nitro's Wildcats at
Underwood Field Friday night.
Brannon Kerr started the G.W. scoring derby with a 60-yard
strike from Rusty Ryan on the Patriots' first play from scrimmage
2:30 into the game.
On G.W.'s next play, Todd Hall dashed 62 yards for a touchdown,.
his first of three long TD runs. Halls also had a 45-yarder and took
a kickoff 80 yards for a score.
The Patriots led 24-8 at the end of the first quarter and led
46-14 at halftime.
Todd Hall led all rushers with 152 yards on 12 carries.
Ryan tossed a 38-yard touchdown to Jeff Mullen and a 10-yarder
to Toney Hall for his three touchdown tosses. Eric Ramey dove one
yard for the Patriots' final TD late in the third quarter.
Skeeter Shamblin scored all of the Wildcats' touchdowns on
one-yard plunges.
Steve White set up the Widlcats' first TD with a 28-yard scamper.
to the two to close the score to 16-6. A two-point conversion halved
the lead.
A 38-yard pass from White to Patrick Coles set up Shamblin's
second score. White complete 13 passes for 163 yards. Matt McNeel
caught four passes for 43 yards while Brian Dailey caught three for
43 yards.
