With defense comes victory. Just ask DuPont and Sissonville.
Strong defensive efforts helped DuPont whip Nitro 28-10 and
Sissonville blank Winfield 20-0 in high school football on Friday
night.

With the Panthers' best defensive efforts since their second and
third games _ their last victories, by the way _ DuPont shut down
Nitro 28-10.
After Nitro jumped into a 10-0 lead, the Panthers blanked the
Wildcats the rest of the way and roared back with a 21-point second
half.
Nitro, which has had four field goals and only two touchdowns in
its last six games, went ahead on David Stalnaker's 23-yard goal and
Shannon Thomas' 26-yard pass to Donnie Withrow.
Steve Edens' 10th touchdown pass of the season _ to Eric Moss on
a play covering seven yards _ cut the Panthers' deficit to 10-7 at
halftime.
With Mark McDaniels adding to his 131 rushing yards on 18
carries, DuPont dominated the second half. Daniels scored on a
four-yard run, William Kinney pulled in a pass from Mike Ford on a.
64-yard scoring pass and Brian Bowe returned an interception 42 yards
for a touchdown _ his second runback of a steal this season.
DuPont's defense was its best effort since early-season wins of
29-0 over St. Albans and 28-14 over South Charleston.
DuPont, 3-5, hosts undefeated and Class AAA defending champion
Capital next Friday while Nitro, 2-6, will be home against Nicholas
County
of Summersville.
