CLEANING UP the Mountain State Athletic Conference record book after Nitro's passing onslaught last Friday in a 49-45 loss at Riverside...

With validation on all statistics from the Wildcat game film, Derek Midkiff's 487 yards passing yards fell just shy of the school record, which is really saying something at Nitro. Only J.R. House's state-record 534 yards against Ripley in 1998 were more.

It was Midkiff's second 400-yard passing game of his career, joining 433 yards last year against St. Albans. House had 11.

Freshman receiver Chris Fulmer's 19 catches are the second-most in MSAC and school history, and his 286 yards are third-best in both categories.

Only Jeff Clark's 29-catch, 413-yard national record-setting effort against Roane County in 1999 supplied more single-player receptions. Chris Martin's 305 yards on 14 catches against John Marshall in 1997 was also more than Fulmer's output.

Speaking of the Wildcats, they can draw even tonight in their all-time series with South Charleston (1-7). The Black Eagles currently lead 24-23 in a series dating back to 1932.
